Honest hotel reviews and real travel experiences, without the usual nonsense.
Hi, I’m Chris, the face behind Lane on Location.
I’ve always loved travelling, and I try to visit as many places as I can each year. But the idea for Lane on Location didn’t come until late 2024, just before a trip to Doha in Qatar.
The night before I flew, I was searching for my hotel on YouTube, trying to figure out what it was actually like. What I found were long, overcomplicated videos that never really gave me a clear, honest feel for the stay.
That’s when my mum suggested something simple: why don’t you film your own review?
So I did.
How it started
Simple reviews that actually show the stay.
I started out filming on my phone with a gimbal, keeping things straightforward and easy to follow.
Since then, I’ve invested in better equipment and now produce higher-quality videos, but the idea has always stayed the same: simple, honest hotel reviews that show what it’s really like.
Alongside hotel reviews, the channel has grown into travel challenges and experiences, from testing budget trips to walking from airports into city centres, all focused on one question: is it actually worth it?
Hotels
Clear, honest reviews
What the room is like, what the area is like, and whether the stay is actually worth booking.
Travel
Real-world challenges
Airport walks, budget trips and city experiences tested properly, not just shown off for a thumbnail.
Perspective
Built on experience
Hospitality, retail, entertainment and radio have all shaped how I review, explain and communicate.
Why it’s different
Fair, direct and useful.
My background gives me a different perspective. I studied Hospitality and Catering, which gave me a strong understanding of hotels, food and service from the inside.
I currently work as a Retail Manager at Waitrose & Partners, and I’ve spent many years working in entertainment, including over five years as a resident DJ and ongoing work in radio.
That experience has helped me develop a clear, direct way of communicating, and that carries through into every Lane on Location video.
Most importantly, everything you see on Lane on Location is 100% honest. I don’t overhype places, and I don’t criticise things just for the sake of views or a catchy title.
The goal is always to give a fair, balanced view so you can decide what’s right for you.
The aim
To show you travel as it really is.
Lane on Location is something I run alongside my full-time role, built from a genuine passion for travel and sharing real experiences.
Wherever I go next, the aim is always the same: real, concise content that gets straight to the point and shows the experience without unnecessary filler.
