First impressions
Arriving at the Hampton by Hilton Liverpool City Centre, the first thing that stands out is how good the location is.
You’re right in the middle of everything, which immediately makes it feel like a solid choice for a city break. The hotel itself looks modern and clean from the outside, and once you walk in, it feels exactly how you’d expect from a Hampton by Hilton.
Check-in was quick and straightforward, no issues there, and overall the first impression is positive. Nothing over the top, but definitely solid.
Location
This is where the hotel really stands out.
You’re within walking distance of:
- the Albert Dock
- Liverpool ONE shopping centre
- M&S Bank Arena
- plenty of bars and restaurants
If you’re visiting Liverpool and want a central base where you can walk pretty much everywhere, this is about as convenient as it gets.
For a city like Liverpool, that’s a big advantage.
Parking
One thing worth knowing before you arrive is the parking situation.
There’s a large underground car park directly beneath the hotel, which is really convenient. However, it’s not cheap.
Parking is around £20 per night, which is fairly standard for a city centre hotel.
The important bit: you need to validate your ticket at reception.
If you don’t, it jumps up to around £50, which is a nasty surprise if you’re not expecting it.
The room
The room itself is exactly what you’d expect from this kind of hotel.
It’s clean, modern and functional. Nothing particularly standout, but nothing wrong with it either.
You get:
- a decent amount of space
- a clean bathroom
- everything you need for a short stay
It’s not luxury, but it doesn’t try to be. For the price, it does the job well.
The bed
This is where things take a turn.
The bed is extremely firm. Not slightly firm, not “you’ll get used to it” firm. Properly hard.
It’s easily one of the hardest beds I’ve come across on the channel.
To the point where I actually ended up pulling out the sofa bed and sleeping on that instead.
If you like a very firm mattress, this probably won’t bother you.
If you don’t, it’s something you need to seriously consider before booking, because it can affect the entire stay.
Facilities
The hotel has a small on-site gym, which is a nice addition if you want to fit something in during your stay.
It’s not massive, but it’s more than enough for a quick workout.
Aside from that, the hotel is fairly straightforward. It focuses on being a reliable, no-frills place to stay rather than offering loads of extras.
Value for money
This is where the hotel scores well.
At around £65 for the night, this is very good value for a central Liverpool hotel.
You’re paying for:
- a great location
- a clean, modern room
- a reliable stay
If the bed works for you, it’s a strong option at this price point.
Who this hotel is for
This hotel makes sense if:
- you want a central Liverpool location
- you’re on a budget but still want something clean and modern
- you’re only staying for a short trip
It might not be the best choice if:
- you’re sensitive to mattress comfort
- you want a more premium or relaxing hotel experience
Pros and cons
Pros
- Excellent central location
- Good value for money
- Clean, modern rooms
- Convenient underground parking
Cons
- Extremely firm bed
- Parking cost adds up quickly
- Limited “premium” feel
Final thoughts
The Hampton by Hilton Liverpool City Centre is a really solid hotel in a great location.
For the price, it’s hard to argue with what you get. Clean rooms, central location and everything you need for a short stay.
But the bed is the deciding factor.
If you’re fine with a very firm mattress, this is a strong option for Liverpool.
If not, it could easily take the shine off what is otherwise a very good stay.
